The story of Shir

Our new friend Shir has so much positive energy, it immediately lifted our spirits and we knew we had to share the good vibes with you. Shir shares our belief that every small act matters when it comes to protecting our planet and all the beings on it. She shared her journey and great tips with us.

S/R: Tell us a bit about yourself (where you live, your profession and what your passions are.

Shir: My name is Shir, I am 23 years old and live in Netanya, Israel. I am an NLP Course graduate and I love painting, sports and am passionate about nature and the environment. I am a vlogger and social media influencer and have a podcast wellness and veganism podcast. I work with sustainable, conscious, and vegan brands, helping them create content and build brand awareness around their values and mission. My goal is to help encourage change in the world. I want people to see that we can, and should live in harmony with our environment. By changing our consumer culture, our diet, and even our subconscious we can create real change.

S/R: You advocate for sustainable living, community, and responsible consumption. How did you become involved in this and what advice can you give those who want to consume more responsibly?

Shir: I started this journey when I was 15. I realized that my food had a heart and a soul and decided to become a vegetarian. It was hard at first but through this process, I started questioning more and more of our habits as a society. I learned more about how things are made: from the clothes we wear to the Nutella we eat. I realized how much of our way of living is harmful to the earth and we don't even stop to think about it. I learned it was possible to live more sustainably. Our brain doesn't like changes but we can teach ourselves to adjust to change. Without change progress is impossible. You can start with small steps, little changes and don't feel like a failure if you can change all your habits at once. This planet is our home and we must change how we live in order to protect it.

S/R: Tell us what responsible consumption means to you and what changes did you make in your everyday life to try and be more conscious of it?

Shir: In recent years, this unrealistic culture has created where we are being told that we constantly need new things, that we must keep updating and purchasing. In reality, we don't need so many things and this culture is extremely harmful. Responsible consumption, to me, starts with really buying what you need. It isn't easy at first and I try to constantly remind myself not to buy out boredom, or that “I have nothing to wear” while my closet is full. I started trading clothes with friends and when I need something I go to secondhand stores or buy with sustainable brands and only purchase items I will wear for years. People around me saw how I changed my habits and I noticed that they started to change too. There is a ripple effect and one person can make a big difference.

S/R: What made you connect to Semi/romantic? What did you love about the brand or the Lingerie itself?

Shir: First of all I just loved the designs! Lingerie is something that you really can't buy second-hand. Even before I started to shop more responsibly it was hard to find lingerie I loved. Now that I have changed my habits I'm also looking for honest and sustainable brands. The quality of the fabrics is so important to me and as a woman, I love a brand that is created by women, for women in what used to be a man's world. There is power in that!

S/R: Could you share with our community something you do for self-care? A ritual, food, pampering... Something that you do just for you, to relax or recharge.

Shir: Two things are super important in my routine. The first is morning meditation. I wake up early so no one disturbs me and the birds accompany my breaths. Is great training for the mind and helps me be focused, positive and peaceful. It even improves memory! The second is sports! This is so important in my life. Our body is our temple and allows us to do so many things. Physical activity releases endorphins increase bone mass, improves joint health, and even helps your digestive system. Together with a healthy, vegan diet, it has helped me stay strong and healthy. Thank you for interviewing me I love your brand and our planet we are on the right way to live in balance with it.
